Assistant Controller - Accounting

SUMMARY

Under general direction, works independently to maintain accounting records. Performs accounting functions with high accuracy and understanding of accounting principles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Accounting Manager will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervise an accounting team of four staff members.
  • Responsible for the oversight of accounting functions and the flow of data into the general ledger.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including journal entries and identification of required adjustments, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Oversee work paper preparation, supporting schedules for footnotes, and variance explanations for quarterly reporting and year-end audit for ADAPT and affiliates.
  • Compiles data for the Form 990 and related tax returns for ADAPT and affiliates.
  • Manages the month-end and year-end general ledger close process.
  • Working with the senior financial leadership to design, implement, and streamline processes to record financial information.
  • Develop policies to ensure procedures and compliance with GAAP and funding source regulations.
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates accounting staff. Ensures that staff is adequately trained and has the necessary skills to perform assigned tasks. Determines training needs in consultation with the senior financial leadership.
  • Ensures cross-training and adequate coverage of critical accounting functions.
  • Provide leadership and support to the finance team, ensuring high motivation and productivity.
  • Manage the software systems, ensuring data is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure financial processes are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in non-profit accounting, including financial systems and staff management.
  • CPA or similar certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit regulations.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning software
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and work effectively under pressure.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
  • Must be able to operate a calculator, computer and other necessary equipment
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (vlookup, pivots) and other pertinent software
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning
  • Strong knowledge of accounting theory, principles, systems and techniques
  • Working knowledge of accounting terminology, procedures and equipment
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and perform work with a high degree of accuracy

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Four years of prior related experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred

COMPENSATION: $120K - $140K (based on experience) + Industry Leading Benefits!
