SUMMARY

Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting the Dentist and Dental Hygienist in providing dental services and treatments to persons served. Helps to maintain the clinic and equipment in a sanitary condition and in accordance with regulatory requirements.

THIS IS A PART-TIME ROLE FOR THURSDAYS 9 AM - 4:30 PM

SALARY - $25/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Dental Assistant will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Prepares dental patient rooms for daily treatment.

• Assists dentists and dental hygienist with procedures as required.

• Sanitizes work surfaces in patient rooms and laboratory.

• Sterilizes instruments and stores them appropriately.

• Processes x-rays and files them in patients’ charts.

• Notifies supervisor of equipment that needs to be repaired or serviced and supplies that need to be ordered.

• Maintains professional contacts with outside dental laboratories that process work for the clinic.

• Interacts professionally and in a courteous manner with other agency departments, persons served, and their families. • Participates in in-service training programs within the department.

• Keeps abreast of changes in the field.

• Directs all important situations, inquiries, and concerns to the appropriate person.

• Maintains confidentiality of patient information and records.

• Performs other related duties as requested.

• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

• Good oral and written communication skills

• Good interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers and people served

• Moderate proficiency in the use of a wide range of tools, equipment, machines and instruments used in the practice of Dentistry.

• Proficiency in the use of difficult manipulative skills that are needed to perform a variety of procedures.

• Ability to work independently and take action within established policies and practice guidelines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or GED and some technical dental training beyond High School

• At least one year of related experience is required and preferably with the MR/DD population LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

• New York State Dental Assistant Certification preferred but not required.
